Integrated Organic Sensor and Optoelectronic Technologies

The consortium of ISOTEC has been established in a way that all relevant basic research and R&D expertise as well as industrial companies of the region are united and are focusing on a common goal or are participating from achievements of the consortium.
Four thematic modules:
Synthesis of Sensor & Structural Materials
Characterisation / Analysis
Structuring techniques
Device Fabrication, Design and Integration

All of which are†scientific and technological areas, which indispensably have to be covered to reach the long-term goal of integrating organic sensors with organic electronics into reliable and cheap sensor tags and labels. Moreover the ISOTEC cluster projects are the ìseed projects” for the nanotechnology center for new materials and methods NanoTecCenter Weiz, which is intended to drive forward the economic translation of nanotechnology in the field of molecular electronics and optoelectronics, integrated organic sensor technology and of functionalized nanoparticles.
ISOTEC deals with new organic semiconductors and their application in opto-electronic components and sensors. The planning status for the setup of a nanotechnology centre for organic/inorganic opto-electronic and functionalised materials in Weiz (NanoTecCenter Weiz) was recently finished and the next step of actually constructing the research building is underway. At the moment, research is being done in the Graz University of Technology laboratories, the Joanneum Research Centers and at the partner institutes.

March 2004

The kick-off event of the Austrian NANO Initiative took place in Vienna on 15 March this year; the event was addressed to NANO participants at Austrian research facilities and companies based in Austria. However, the network also welcomes international partners interested in taking part in this initiative.

The Austrian NANO Initiative coordinates NANO measures at the national and regional level and is funded jointly by several ministries, provincial governments and funding authorities under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology.

The aim of the initiative is to facilitate a dynamic development of nanotechnology in Austria by creating suitable framework conditions. The concept of the initiative was jointly elaborated with the participation of scientists, companies, multipliers from the Austrian Council for Research and Technology Development, and the responsible ministries, and consists of four programme lines:

  1. Research and technology development in joint projects
  2. Networks and confidence building
  3. Training and further training measures
  4. Supporting measures

Approx. 10 million euros in subsidies were provided for the first call for tenders under the initiative, which is managed by the Austrian Space Agency.
